The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos State has adopted Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as “Akintayo,” as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Olaniyi reportedly emerged after consultations among party leaders, stakeholders, and aspirants within the Lagos chapter of the SDP.
Party officials said the decision to adopt a consensus candidate was aimed at promoting unity and strengthening the SDP’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking after his emergence, Olaniyi thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work toward building a stronger opposition platform in Lagos State.
He also promised to focus on governance issues affecting Lagos residents, including transportation, housing, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and economic development.
According to SDP leaders, the party plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across the state ahead of the election cycle.
Political observers say the emergence of Olaniyi signals the beginning of broader political realignments and preparations among opposition parties in Lagos as attention gradually shifts toward the 2027 governorship race.
