Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the arrest of the owner and contractor of a hotel that collapsed in Abuja.
Wike gave the directive during an on-the-spot assessment of the building collapse site, expressing anger over what he described as negligence and disregard for building regulations.
According to him, those responsible must be held accountable, stressing that poor construction practices and failure to comply with approved standards will no longer be tolerated in the FCT.
The minister also warned that authorities will begin a strict crackdown on illegal structures and substandard buildings, noting that such incidents pose serious risks to lives and property.
Emergency responders were seen at the scene carrying out rescue operations, while investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
Wike reiterated that the FCT administration is committed to enforcing building codes and ensuring safety compliance, adding that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
