Lecturers at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have commenced an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their March 2026 salary.
The action was confirmed by the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, with Chairman Professor Jurbe Molwus stating that lecturers will not resume duties until their salaries are paid.
According to the union, the strike took effect on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with members directed to abstain from:
- Lectures
- Examinations
- Official meetings
ASUU expressed frustration over the delay, blaming the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for the issue, noting that the university’s internal processes had already been completed.
In a statement to members, the union said their patience had been stretched, adding that the industrial action would continue until the outstanding salary is paid.
The union also warned that a strike monitoring team would be activated to ensure full compliance among lecturers.
