U.S. President Donald Trump has triggered widespread global backlash after sharing an AI-generated image of himself in a Jesus-like depiction, a move critics say blurs the line between political messaging and religious symbolism.

The controversial image, posted on his Truth Social platform, appears to show Trump in a Christ-like role performing a miracle in a hospital setting, surrounded by figures and patriotic American imagery. The post quickly spread across social media, drawing strong reactions from religious leaders, politicians, and the public.

The image came shortly after Trump publicly criticised Pope Leo XIV, escalating tensions between the U.S. president and the Vatican. Reports say the Pope had condemned militarism and political violence, comments widely interpreted as indirect criticism of Trump’s foreign policy stance.

The AI-generated post has since been described by critics as provocative and blasphemous, with some accusing it of using religious imagery for political influence. Even some of Trump’s usual supporters reportedly expressed discomfort with the content, calling it inappropriate.

However, defenders of the president have framed the post as symbolic political expression, arguing that AI-generated imagery is increasingly being used in modern political communication and satire.

The incident adds to growing global debate about the use of artificial intelligence in politics, especially when it involves sensitive religious themes. Analysts say such content reflects a new era where digital imagery can rapidly influence public opinion, while also sparking controversy on a global scale.

As reactions continue worldwide, the episode highlights rising concerns over how AI-generated content is reshaping political messaging, public discourse, and cultural boundaries.
