Students of Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union have announced a protest over the lingering transportation crisis on campus, with the demonstration scheduled to begin Tuesday at 6 a.m.

According to a congress resolution, students resolved to stage a peaceful protest that will include blocking major roads and gates leading into campus until their demands are addressed. The union said the action follows prolonged frustration over inadequate transportation affecting movement and academic activities.

The planned protest comes weeks after a 72-hour lecture boycott over complaints that the university’s new transport system suffers from insufficient buses, overcrowding, poor route coverage and long waiting times, especially for students living off campus.

Student leaders are demanding the provision of sufficient vehicles, restoration of workable transport alternatives pending improvements, and broader consultation before further changes are made to the system.

The union said the demonstration would be peaceful and orderly, but warned it reflects growing dissatisfaction over what students describe as unresolved hardship. The protest is expected to heighten pressure on university management to respond to the transportation crisis.
