President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hosted Chadian leader Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in a high-level diplomatic engagement between both countries.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation on key issues such as regional security, trade, and economic development.
This marks Déby’s first official visit to Nigeria since Tinubu attended his inauguration in Chad in 2024, highlighting ongoing diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Both leaders are expected to have discussed security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin, particularly the fight against terrorism involving groups like Boko Haram and other insurgent networks operating across Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.
Nigeria and Chad have long maintained strategic cooperation, especially through joint military efforts aimed at tackling cross-border insurgency and stabilising the region.
The meeting also comes amid increased diplomatic activity by Tinubu, who has hosted other foreign leaders recently, signaling efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s regional and international partnerships.
