The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Oyo State as it carries out essential maintenance and upgrades on the national grid.

According to the notice, the outage is scheduled to take place over several days and will affect electricity supply in areas fed by the Ibadan North and environs transmission lines. The planned downtime is part of TCN’s broader initiative to improve system reliability and strengthen the transmission network.

TCN explained that the maintenance work which includes line repairs and equipment replacement is necessary to prevent unplanned disruptions in the future and help the grid cope with increasing demand. While these planned outages will temporarily reduce supply in the impacted areas, the company said the work is expected to result in more stable and efficient power distribution once completed.

Residents and businesses in the affected communities have been advised to prepare by making alternate power arrangements where possible, as supply is expected to be limited during the maintenance window.

The announcement serves as yet another reminder of how Nigeria’s power sector continues to balance short‑term disruptions with long‑term improvements.
