A tragic incident occurred at the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, where a 52-year-old woman suspected of drug trafficking collapsed and died shortly after being arraigned.

The woman, identified simply as Titilayo, was brought before the court following her arrest by the Edo State Task Force and subsequent transfer to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over allegations of selling a substance believed to be a hard drug.

According to reports, she slumped minutes after the court proceedings began, causing panic within the courtroom. Witnesses claimed she appeared unwell before her arraignment and alleged that her condition may have been overlooked.

However, the NDLEA denied any negligence. The Edo State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, stated that the suspect walked into the courtroom on her own and showed no visible signs of illness prior to the incident.

Authorities noted that the exact cause of death remains unknown, adding that only a medical examination or autopsy can determine what led to her sudden collapse.

The incident has sparked concern over the health condition and treatment of suspects in custody, especially during prosecution processes.
