At least seven people have been killed in a fresh attack on Channel One community, a border settlement in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, following an assault by suspected armed herders.
Reports said the attackers stormed the community late Sunday night, opening fire on residents and forcing many to flee for safety. Local sources said the assailants arrived in groups, some reportedly on motorcycles, and struck the area along the Arufu–Wukari road near the Benue–Taraba border.
Community leaders said several others sustained injuries, with some victims taken to medical facilities in Anyiin and Ugba for treatment. There were also fears the death toll could rise due to the condition of some of the injured.
The Chairman of Logo LGA, Clement Kav, confirmed the attack and said security authorities had been briefed. Residents alleged the attackers may have operated from nearby deserted settlements previously flagged in intelligence reports as suspected hideouts for armed groups.
The latest killings have triggered renewed concern over persistent violence in Benue border communities, where repeated attacks linked to the herder-farmer conflict have displaced residents and deepened insecurity.
