A tragic school shooting in southern Turkey has left nine people dead and 13 others injured after a student opened fire inside a middle school.

The attack occurred in the KahramanmaraÅŸ province, where a 14-year-old pupil reportedly entered the school armed with multiple weapons and opened fire in two classrooms. Victims include eight students and one teacher, while several of the injured remain in critical condition.

Authorities said the attacker acted alone and described the incident as a personal attack, not terrorism. He was later found dead at the scene, with reports indicating he may have taken his own life during the chaos.

Investigations revealed that the weapons used in the attack were believed to belong to the suspect’s father, a former police officer, who has since been detained for questioning.

The shooting marks the second school attack in Turkey within 48 hours, following another incident in Åžanlıurfa where a former student injured multiple people before killing himself.

Although school shootings are relatively rare in Turkey, the back-to-back incidents have sparked national concern over school safety and access to firearms, with authorities promising a full investigation.
