Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a man identified as Eric Nwombu for allegedly impersonating a coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended under the IGP’s Safe School Initiative after suspicious activities were reported at a cyber café in Atani.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was collecting 2026 JAMB examination slips from candidates who came to check their exam centres, falsely presenting himself as an official coordinator.
Items recovered from him include:
- Eight JAMB examination slips
- A notebook containing names and exam numbers of students
Police said the cyber café staff became suspicious of his claims and alerted authorities. On sighting officers, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee but was quickly arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the integrity of public examinations and urged residents to report suspicious activities around exam centres.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
