Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has claimed that Bruno Fernandes would become a serious Ballon d’Or contender if he played for a dominant club like Manchester City.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Pogba praised Fernandes’ quality but suggested the Portuguese midfielder’s achievements are not fully recognised because of Manchester United’s struggles in recent seasons.
He argued that Fernandes’ numbers and performances would attract far more global recognition in a team that consistently wins major trophies.
“Bruno Fernandes, in other big clubs, is in the top three Ballon d’Or,” Pogba said.
“You put him in City, he’s in the Ballon d’Or.”
Pogba explained that individual awards like the Ballon d’Or are heavily influenced by team success, suggesting that players at clubs like Manchester City are more likely to receive top recognition because of consistent silverware.
Fernandes has been one of Manchester United’s standout performers in recent years, contributing goals and assists regularly despite the club’s inconsistency in competing for major titles.
The debate has sparked discussion among fans and pundits about whether elite players at underperforming clubs are undervalued when it comes to global awards.
