The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria has sealed 131 pharmaceutical outlets in Nasarawa State for failing to comply with regulatory standards.
The enforcement exercise targeted pharmacies, patent medicine stores, and other drug outlets found to be operating outside approved guidelines.
According to officials, the action followed a statewide inspection of hundreds of premises, during which widespread violations were discovered. These included:
- Operating without valid licences
- Absence of qualified pharmacists on duty
- Poor storage conditions for drugs
- Engaging in practices beyond approved scope
The council explained that the crackdown is part of efforts to enforce the National Drug Distribution Guidelines, which are designed to ensure that medicines are handled properly and reach consumers safely.
Authorities also raised concerns that many outlets were being run by unqualified personnel, increasing the risk of substandard or unsafe medication being dispensed to the public.
The PCN warned that it will continue similar enforcement operations across the country, urging Nigerians to buy drugs only from licensed and properly regulated outlets.
