Panic broke out in parts of Lagos after a fire engulfed a market in the Yaba area in the early hours of Saturday.

The blaze reportedly started around 3 a.m., rapidly spreading through sections of the market and destroying several shops and goods. Eyewitnesses described scenes of thick smoke and intense flames, as traders and residents rushed to salvage whatever they could.

Videos circulating online showed chaotic moments, with people scrambling for safety while others attempted to rescue their merchandise from the inferno.

Firefighters were said to be at the scene battling the blaze, though some eyewitnesses alleged challenges with emergency response, including limited resources at the time of the incident.

As of now, authorities have not confirmed the cause of the fire, and there is no official statement on casualties or the full extent of damage.
