A former Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Lukman Adeleye, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared his intention to seek re-election.
Adeleye, who represents Odogbolu State Constituency, made the announcement during an event attended by party stakeholders and community leaders in Odogbolu Local Government Area. The gathering also marked his formal reception into the APC following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmaker said his decision to run for a second term is driven by the need to build on his first-term achievements and expand development projects across his constituency. He also expressed appreciation to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for what he described as inclusive leadership that influenced his move.
Addressing concerns about his shift from opposition to the ruling party, Adeleye stated that serving the people is more important than holding political titles, adding that joining the APC would allow him to deliver more dividends of democracy.
He also expressed confidence ahead of future elections, assuring party members of victory in Odogbolu, which he described as increasingly aligned with the APC.
The defection is seen as a notable political shift in the constituency, especially as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
