Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians to reject President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election, citing the government’s failure to deliver stable electricity.
Obi made the statement in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he reminded Nigerians of Tinubu’s 2023 campaign promise that he should not be re-elected if he failed to provide constant power within four years.
Quoting the president’s earlier pledge, Obi argued that the condition Tinubu set for himself has not been met, pointing to continued power outages and instability in electricity supply across the country.
He urged citizens to hold leaders accountable for their promises, insisting that leadership should be judged based on performance, especially in critical sectors like power that directly affect economic growth and daily life.
The remarks add to ongoing political tensions as opposition figures increasingly criticise the administration’s handling of key national issues, with electricity supply remaining one of the most persistent challenges.
