Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has rallied support among All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency for House of Representatives aspirant Moses Olarewaju, ahead of the party’s primaries.

At a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Obanikoro, 38 out of 42 party leaders, community leaders and aspirants reportedly endorsed Olarewaju as the constituency’s consensus candidate for the 2027 election. The endorsement was ratified through a voice vote after consultations among party stakeholders.

Reports said some aspirants, including Tunde Sanusi, Rasheed Jimoh and Adeola Adegbenga, stepped down following the leaders’ decision, signaling growing support for Olarewaju within the local APC structure.

Obanikoro described the endorsement as the position of the apex leadership in the constituency, though he acknowledged that other aspirants still retain the constitutional right to contest in the primary election. However, he warned that going against the consensus would amount to opposing the wishes of party leadership.

The development comes ahead of APC screening for aspirants scheduled for May 6 to May 9, and is seen as an early effort to build unity and avoid internal divisions before the primaries.

The move may also intensify debate over the use of consensus arrangements within the APC, as party members across several states continue to weigh the balance between internal democracy and negotiated political agreements.
