The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued a 15-year-old girl from an alleged human trafficking attempt to Libya.
According to officials of the FCT Command, the girl was found in the custody of a 46-year-old suspect in Kwali Area Council of Abuja, where she had reportedly been held for about two weeks without her family’s consent.
The rescue followed a missing person report filed by the victim’s mother, which triggered an immediate investigation by security operatives.
Preliminary findings showed that the suspect allegedly planned to traffic the minor to Libya for child labour, and investigators also raised concerns that the girl may have been sexually abused while in captivity.
NSCDC officials said both the suspect and the rescued teenager have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on trafficking networks and urged the public to report suspicious movements of minors, stressing that community vigilance remains key in preventing such crimes.
