A Nigerian national has been arrested in Thailand over his alleged involvement in a cocaine trafficking network operating in Bangkok’s nightlife districts.

The suspect, identified as Nwaiwu Ifeanyi Placid (46), was apprehended by officers of the Metropolitan Police Bureau during a targeted operation in the Silom area of Bangkok.

According to Thai authorities, he had been under surveillance before his arrest, which led to the recovery of about 27 grammes of cocaine at the point of capture.

The operation also resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects, including a Swiss national and two Thai citizens, as part of a broader crackdown on the drug syndicate.

Police said further searches linked to the case led to the seizure of more drugs, cash, a vehicle, and jewellery, believed to be proceeds from illegal activities.

Authorities added that the arrest is connected to earlier raids targeting the same network, indicating that the suspect may be part of a larger transnational trafficking operation supplying cocaine within entertainment hubs in the city.

Thailand has some of the strictest drug laws in the world, with severe penalties including long-term imprisonment for trafficking offences.
