Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered and raided three illicit drug warehouses hidden within a residential estate in Okota, Lagos, seizing tramadol and codeine worth ₦16.9 billion in what authorities described as a major breakthrough against drug trafficking networks.
According to the agency, the intelligence-led operation targeted locations in Park View Estate, Ago Palace Way, where officers recovered 2.36 million pills of high-potency tramadol (225mg) and 1.909 million bottles of codeine syrup, concealed across the warehouses.
NDLEA said the seizure included 19,094 cartons of codeine syrup and 34 cartons of tramadol, with the recovered substances estimated at nearly 4.3 million units in total.
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa described the operation as a major disruption of a drug trafficking network, saying the scale of the recovery showed the agency’s intelligence capabilities and sent a warning to drug cartels operating in residential communities.
The agency said the raid forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illicit drug supply chains and combat abuse of pharmaceutical opioids, which authorities have linked to addiction, crime and wider public health concerns.
The bust is being described as one of the largest recent NDLEA seizures in Lagos, and is expected to intensify scrutiny over the use of residential estates as cover for organised drug operations.
