The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 52 suspected drug offenders during coordinated raids on drug dens across Kano.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Sharar Mafaka” (meaning clearing hideouts), targeted over 20 identified hotspots in the Kano metropolis, including areas such as Filin Idi, Fagge, Hotoro Flyover, Yankaba Park, Sabon Gari and Kwanar Ungogo.
According to the agency, the two-day crackdown led to the arrest of 52 suspects, including four women, while operatives also recovered illicit drugs, drug paraphernalia and locally made weapons from the locations.
Kano Strategic Commander of NDLEA, Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, said the agency is implementing a “dislodge and occupy” strategy, which involves not only raiding drug joints but maintaining a presence to prevent traffickers from returning.
He added that the operation aligns with the broader anti-drug campaign of NDLEA Chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa, and warned that similar raids will continue as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking.
The crackdown comes amid growing concern over substance abuse in urban communities, with authorities insisting sustained enforcement is necessary to restore safety and reduce drug-related crime.
