The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested 52 suspected drug offenders in a major crackdown across multiple drug hotspots in Kano metropolis. The operation was carried out under a campaign codenamed Operation Sharar Mafaka (“Clearing Hideouts”).
According to the agency, the two-day operation targeted more than 20 identified drug dens beginning April 27, with raids conducted in areas including Filin Idi, Fagge, Hotoro Flyover, Yankaba Park, Sabon Gari and Kwanar Ungogo.
NDLEA said the operation led to the arrest of 52 suspects, including four women, while operatives also recovered assorted illicit substances, drug paraphernalia and locally made weapons.
Kano Strategic Commander Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal said the agency is adopting a “dislodge and occupy” strategy, aimed not only at raiding drug joints but maintaining a presence in affected areas to prevent criminal activity from returning.
The command said the crackdown forms part of a sustained campaign aligned with NDLEA Chairman Mohammed Buba Marwa’s anti-drug agenda and warned that similar operations will continue across the state.
The operation comes amid broader concern over rising drug abuse and trafficking in urban centres, with authorities describing the latest sweep as part of efforts to restore safety in vulnerable communities.
