The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a strong warning to television and radio broadcasters, cautioning anchors against bullying guests, expressing personal opinions as fact, and compromising neutrality on air.

In a statement released on Friday, the commission said it has observed a growing trend where some presenters fail to maintain professionalism during live programmes, especially in news, political, and current affairs discussions.

NBC stressed that broadcasters must ensure fair hearing for all sides of a discussion, warning that any anchor who intimidates guests or denies opposing views will face sanctions under the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

The commission classified such actions as a Class B breach, noting that editorial responsibility lies solely with broadcast stations, even during live or unscripted programmes.

NBC also raised concern that some broadcast platforms are being misused for biased commentary, inflammatory content, and politically charged statements, which could undermine public trust and national unity.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the regulator said it will enforce stricter compliance with broadcasting rules to ensure accuracy, balance, and professionalism across all media platforms.
