The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and shut down illegal production sites in Lagos State, seizing adulterated alcoholic beverages valued at about ₦350 million.
The operation, carried out by enforcement officers acting on intelligence reports, led to raids at locations including the Trade Fair Complex, Zamfara Plaza, and parts of Lagos Island, where counterfeit drinks were being produced and distributed.
According to the agency, the illegal facilities were equipped with makeshift production tools such as mixing tanks, filtration systems, empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials used to imitate popular alcoholic brands.
NAFDAC stated that over 1,800 cartons of counterfeit and adulterated alcoholic products were recovered during the operation, describing the value of the seized items as approximately ₦350 million.
The agency also confirmed that one suspect was arrested in connection with the illegal production and distribution network, while all recovered items have been confiscated for further investigation and regulatory action.
