The forthcoming biopic Michael, based on the life of Michael Jackson, is projected to perform strongly at the box office, highlighting the enduring global appeal of the late pop icon. Early projections suggest the film could break records for musical biopics despite ongoing public debate tied to longstanding abuse allegations.

However, the production has not been without controversy. Reports indicate that the filmmakers removed references to child abuse allegations from the film’s storyline following legal constraints, leading to costly reshoots estimated between $10–15 million.

Critics argue that this decision may present a more sanitized narrative, while supporters believe focusing on Jackson’s musical legacy will resonate more strongly with audiences. Despite the divided opinions, industry observers note that Jackson’s brand remains commercially powerful, with the biopic reinforcing a “franchise” that continues to thrive years after his death.

Still, not all projections are uniformly optimistic, as some analysts warn that controversy and audience sentiment could impact the film’s long-term performance.
