Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has claimed that Cole Palmer could leave Chelsea F.C. for Manchester United F.C. if Chelsea fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Merson made the prediction amid growing uncertainty over Chelsea’s top-four hopes, suggesting missing out on Europe’s elite competition could trigger major consequences for the club, including the possible departure of key players.

According to Merson, Palmer may be unwilling to remain at Stamford Bridge if Chelsea end up in the UEFA Conference League rather than the Champions League, arguing that a player of his quality would want to compete at the highest level. He said in that scenario, Manchester United could emerge as a realistic destination.

The comments have fueled fresh transfer speculation around Palmer, who has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers. However, the suggestion remains opinion rather than indication of an active transfer move. In fact, Palmer recently downplayed speculation about leaving and said he has no plans to move from Chelsea.
