Former Argentina international Javier Mascherano has resigned as head coach of Inter Miami, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure with the Major League Soccer club.
The Argentine manager stepped down for personal reasons, according to a statement released by the club. Mascherano confirmed his decision after Inter Miami’s 2–2 draw against the New York Red Bulls.
Mascherano had taken charge of the club in November 2024 and quickly made history by guiding the team to its first-ever MLS Cup title in 2025, a major milestone in the club’s history.
During his tenure, Inter Miami—led by stars such as Lionel Messi—also reached the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals and made a strong start to the 2026 MLS season, sitting among the top teams in the Eastern Conference before his departure.
Following his resignation, the club announced that sporting director Guillermo Hoyos will take over as interim head coach while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
Mascherano expressed gratitude to the club, players, and fans, saying he would always cherish the memories of winning the club’s first major trophy.
