At least two people have died following a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever in Katsina State, raising renewed concerns over the spread of the disease.

Health officials confirmed that three cases have been recorded in the state, with two fatalities reported in recent days. The deaths occurred in Kafur and Funtua local government areas, while a third patient is currently receiving treatment.

A consultant at the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina disclosed that the remaining patient, a woman, is stable and responding to treatment in an isolation centre.

The outbreak has triggered concern among health authorities, especially as Lassa fever remains endemic in parts of Nigeria and can spread rapidly if not contained. Medical experts have emphasized the need for early detection, isolation, and strict hygiene measures to prevent further infections.

Lassa fever is typically transmitted through contact with food or household items contaminated by infected rodents, and in severe cases, it can lead to internal bleeding, organ failure, and death.
