Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reacted to the defection of eight members of the House of Representatives from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress, describing the move as part of the normal democratic process.

The lawmakers formally announced their defection during plenary at the National Assembly, citing the internal crisis within the NNPP as the reason for their decision.

The development was witnessed in Abuja by Governor Yusuf, alongside key political figures, including former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

Reacting through his spokesperson, the governor maintained that such political movements are not unusual, noting that realignments are a regular feature of a vibrant democracy. He also emphasized the need for unity and cooperation among political actors, regardless of party differences, for the development of Kano State.

The eight defectors are among a wider group of lawmakers across the country who recently switched parties, highlighting ongoing shifts within Nigeria’s political space as early positioning for the 2027 elections intensifies.
