Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has condemned the conduct of some youths who reportedly displayed undergarments during the recent visit of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to the state, describing the act as disgraceful and contrary to Kano’s cultural and moral values.
The governor distanced his administration and the people of Kano from the incident, insisting the behaviour did not reflect the traditions of the state. He said the action was a disturbing departure from the principles of his administration’s “Kano First Agenda” and also contradicted values of modesty and respect.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf urged politicians to stop using young people for actions capable of causing embarrassment or social disorder. He also called on the youths involved to seek forgiveness and apologise to the people of Kano over the incident.
The governor spoke during the Third Special Prayer for Lasting Peace held at the Government House, where thousands of Qur’anic reciters gathered to pray for peace and stability in the state and the country.
The incident had sparked reactions after images and videos from the First Lady’s visit circulated online, drawing criticism and political commentary. Yusuf’s response appears aimed at calming tensions while reinforcing discipline and preserving the state’s public image.
