Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has publicly apologised to the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards after previously calling them out over her nomination snub.
The actress admitted that her earlier reaction after not being nominated for Best Supporting Actress was inappropriate, stating clearly that “that tweet should not have happened. No excuse.”
In her apology posted on X (formerly Twitter), she acknowledged that her comments were disrespectful to the award organisers, nominees, and supporters, taking full responsibility for her actions.
Lily Afe explained that her reaction came from a place of disappointment, especially as she had high expectations for her role in To Kill A Monkey, which she described as a defining moment in her career.
She further admitted that she acted out of “hurt and entitlement”, noting that her response was out of character and expressing a desire to do better moving forward.
Her apology follows earlier backlash after she criticised the awards and told organisers to “eat your award” when the nomination list was released.
