Ghana’s President, John Mahama, has said he prays for Nigeria’s success, stressing that instability in Africa’s largest economy could have ripple effects across the region, including migration pressure on neighbouring countries like Ghana.
Speaking at a recent event, Mahama noted that Nigeria’s progress is directly tied to Ghana’s well-being, adding that both countries share deep historical and economic ties. He remarked that Ghanaians “pray daily” for Nigeria to succeed so that citizens would not be forced to migrate in large numbers.
He explained that with Nigeria’s population exceeding 200 million, any major instability could significantly impact smaller neighbouring countries, describing Nigerians as “cousins” whose prosperity benefits the entire West African region.
Mahama also emphasised the importance of regional cooperation and stability, warning that economic hardship or insecurity in Nigeria could create broader challenges for West Africa.
The comments come amid ongoing concerns about Nigeria’s economic struggles and security challenges, which have led to increased migration trends within the region.
