A Ghanaian Premier League footballer has been killed after an armed robbery attack on his team’s bus while returning from an away match, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The player, identified as Dominic Frimpong (20) of Berekum Chelsea, was reportedly shot during the attack when armed men opened fire on the bus along the Bibiani–Goaso road. He later died from his injuries after being rushed to hospital.
The attack occurred as the team was travelling back from a league fixture against FC Samartex. Reports say masked gunmen ambushed the vehicle, forcing players and staff to flee into nearby bushes to escape the assault.
The Ghana Football Association has described the incident as a devastating loss to both the club and the nation’s football community, noting that the player was a promising young talent.
Authorities have launched investigations, while security concerns around team travel in domestic competitions have been raised following the tragedy.
