A Lagos-based maritime company, Sea Delights Marine Wreckage Limited, has filed a ₦771 million lawsuit against the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Nigerian Navy over an alleged failure to release a vessel it purchased through a court-ordered auction.
The suit was filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos in case number FHC/L/CS/793/2026, alongside other officials including the Chief Registrar and Deputy Chief Registrar (Admiralty) of the court.
According to the company, it paid ₦130 million in July 2024 for a vessel known as MT Dejikun but has been unable to take possession due to what it described as interference and refusal to obey court orders by the Navy and the AGF’s office.
The firm is asking the court for several reliefs, including a declaration that the auction sale was valid, an order compelling release of the vessel, or alternatively a refund of ₦130 million with interest, plus ₦500 million in damages for losses suffered.
It also alleges that despite a court ruling ordering the release of the vessel, the defendants have continued to withhold it, leading to further deterioration and financial losses.
The case has been fixed for hearing on June 15, 2026, as the court is expected to determine the legality of the auction and the alleged disobedience of judicial orders.
