The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, admitted that there were errors in Nigeria’s new tax laws, describing the claim as misleading and inaccurate.

According to the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, the minister did not make any admission of errors during a recent public engagement, but was instead misquoted in media reports that suggested he acknowledged flaws in the legislation.

The committee clarified that his comments were taken out of context, explaining that he only highlighted the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement and possible future amendments as part of normal legislative processes, not an admission of mistakes in the current tax framework. It further stated that the new tax laws remain valid, gazetted, and fully in effect following approval by the National Assembly.

Officials warned against what they described as sensational reporting, urging Nigerians to rely on verified government communication channels for accurate information regarding fiscal policies and reforms.

The statement comes amid ongoing public debate over Nigeria’s new tax regime, which has generated mixed reactions from stakeholders, with some praising its reform structure while others continue to raise concerns about implementation and clarity.
