The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered a suspected internet fraud training centre commonly referred to as a “Yahoo academy” in Abuja, leading to the arrest of 31 individuals.

According to the anti-graft agency, the operation was carried out by operatives of its Abuja Zonal Directorate following credible intelligence about illegal activities at the location.

The suspects were allegedly being trained in various forms of cyber fraud, including romance scams and identity theft schemes, under the guidance of more experienced fraudsters. The EFCC described the facility as a hub where recruits were groomed and equipped with tools to carry out online scams.

Items recovered during the raid include multiple laptops, mobile phones, and other digital devices believed to have been used for fraudulent activities.

The commission confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.

The discovery highlights a growing trend in cybercrime operations, where structured networks are established to recruit and train individuals, further complicating efforts to combat internet fraud in the country.
