The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has ordered an immediate withdrawal of services at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), following the alleged assault on a female doctor.

According to the association, the incident involved a female house officer who was attacked by a group of individuals after the death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency unit. The attackers reportedly identified her as part of the medical team that handled the case before assaulting her.

Describing the घटना as “shocking and barbaric,” NARD directed all its members in the hospital including house officers to down tools immediately until safety can be guaranteed.

The association also issued a strong warning, stating that failure to address its demands could lead to a wider regional or national strike.

NARD is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved, stressing that justice must be served and seen to be served. It also called on the hospital management to strengthen security within the facility to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.

The suspects are believed to be linked to a group of students, reportedly from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, though investigations are ongoing.
