 cult‑related clash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State left one young man dead after rival factions of the Deybam confraternity reportedly fought over a woman on Easter Sunday (April 5, 2026). 


The incident happened along Abakaliki Street in the Mile 1 area of Diobu, where suspected members of the “Doggies” and “White Eagles” houses both factions of the same cult group clashed, with gunfire erupting during the confrontation. 


According to residents, the victim was shot after leaving a nearby store to buy bread and was hit by gunmen who arrived in a vehicle, triggering panic as people fled for safety. 


The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the killing, classifying it as an intra‑cult clash and saying an intensive manhunt has been launched for those responsible. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju has also ordered increased security patrols in the area to prevent further violence. 


The clash highlights ongoing issues with cult violence in parts of Rivers State, where turf rivalries and personal disputes can quickly turn deadly.
