A Kaduna State High Court has adjourned ruling on the bail application of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, pushing the decision to the first week of June and extending uncertainty over his release.

The ruling, earlier expected on April 21, was deferred by Justice Darius Khobo after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution in the ongoing corruption case against the former governor.

With the adjournment, El-Rufai is to remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) pending the court’s decision on whether to grant bail. He is facing an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud, abuse of office, and corruption.

Following proceedings, his legal team criticised the postponement, arguing the delay was unnecessary and raising concerns that the case may be politically influenced. The defence also signalled it may consider further legal steps in response to the continued delay.

The development adds another twist to El-Rufai’s legal troubles, especially as he had earlier secured bail in a separate Federal High Court matter but remains in custody due to the unresolved state court proceedings.
