Head coach Daniel Thioune has expressed confidence that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface could play a crucial role in helping Werder Bremen avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
Bremen are currently battling to stay in the top flight, sitting just four points above the relegation play-off zone, with only a handful of matches left this season.
Thioune revealed that although Boniface will not feature immediately, the club is hopeful of gradually reintroducing him into the squad in the coming weeks as he continues his recovery from a knee injury that has sidelined him for about three months.
The coach explained that Boniface has shown strong commitment to returning and helping the team, saying the striker’s presence would provide an extra attacking option and a “real asset” in their fight for survival.
The 25-year-old forward has already resumed individual training and is expected to return to full team sessions soon, with a possible comeback before the end of April.
His return could be decisive for Bremen, especially as their remaining fixtures include direct clashes with teams also fighting relegation, where every point will be critical.
