Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to mourn soldiers killed in a recent terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh.
The visit, made on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, followed a deadly assault by suspected insurgents that claimed the lives of several military personnel, including a senior officer.
During the condolence visit, Shettima described the fallen soldiers as heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation, noting that their sacrifice highlights the heavy cost of maintaining peace and security.
The attack occurred during a coordinated midnight raid on military formations in Benisheikh, where heavily armed fighters reportedly overran positions in one of the most intense assaults recorded in recent months.
Shettima also reassured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, vowing that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice.
