Several high-profile football nations, including Nigeria national football team and Italy national football team, will not feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after failing to secure qualification.

For Nigeria, the disappointment continues as the Super Eagles were eliminated during the qualification phase, missing out on the tournament despite expectations and a strong football pedigree. Their absence marks another setback for a team that has historically been a regular presence on the global stage.

Italy’s situation is equally shocking. The European giants, four-time World Cup winners, also failed to qualify extending a troubling trend after missing previous editions. Their inability to secure a spot has raised serious questions about the state of football development and consistency within the national team.

Other notable countries are also set to miss the tournament, highlighting how competitive qualification has become across continents. With the expanded World Cup format, many expected more traditional teams to make it but the results have proven otherwise.

The 2026 tournament, to be hosted across United States, Canada, and Mexico, will now feature a different mix of teams, giving room for emerging nations to shine on football’s biggest stage.
