Suspected bandits have killed three local hunters during an attack in Zamfara State, in yet another incident underscoring persistent insecurity in the region.

Reports said the hunters were ambushed while responding to security threats in a rural community, where they were engaged by armed assailants in a deadly confrontation. The attackers reportedly overpowered the hunters, killed them and made away with an unspecified number of cattle.

The victims were said to be part of local security volunteers supporting efforts to protect communities from recurring bandit raids. The attack has sparked renewed concern over the vulnerability of community-based security groups operating in high-risk areas.

Residents said the incident has heightened fear in surrounding communities already struggling with repeated attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling linked to armed groups operating across parts of Zamfara.

Security operatives have reportedly intensified patrols in the area following the attack, while authorities are expected to step up efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further violence.
