Armed bandits have killed a Community Health Officer and five other persons in a deadly attack on a community in Zamfara State, while also setting a primary health facility ablaze.
The incident occurred in Yarkatsinan Laka community in Bungudu Local Government Area, where heavily armed attackers stormed the area on motorcycles and opened fire on residents.
According to police authorities, the assailants arrived in large numbers, triggering a gun battle with security operatives who responded to the attack. During the exchange, several of the attackers were reportedly killed, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
Despite the intervention, the attack claimed the lives of at least six people, including the Community Health Officer, while the health centre was completely destroyed by fire, disrupting medical services in the community.
Security officials say normalcy has been restored in the area, with increased deployment of personnel to prevent further attacks. Authorities have also urged residents to provide useful information that could aid ongoing operations against bandits.
