Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has intensified political consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, holding separate meetings with key opposition figures including David Mark and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The meetings, which took place in Abuja, are part of ongoing efforts to build a strong opposition coalition capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election.
Atiku first visited David Mark, who is currently playing a leading role in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), before also meeting Kwankwaso, a major political figure in the North who recently defected to the party.
Sharing details of the engagements, Atiku described both visits as courtesy meetings focused on strengthening the ADC and discussing Nigeria’s political future, emphasizing the need to restore confidence in governance and democracy.
The discussions are part of broader behind-the-scenes consultations among opposition heavyweights, many of whom are exploring the ADC as a unifying platform following internal crises in traditional parties like the PDP.
Analysts say the involvement of figures such as Kwankwaso who commands significant support in Kano and the wider North could play a crucial role in shaping the balance of power ahead of 2027.
However, the emerging coalition is not without challenges, as internal disputes within the ADC leadership structure could affect its stability if not resolved quickly.
