Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to return to the ring for his first fight since the car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his close associates last December.
Joshua will face Kristian Prenga in a comeback bout scheduled for July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a fight being billed as “The Comeback.”
The bout marks Joshua’s return after months away from boxing following the fatal crash, which left him sidelined as he recovered physically and emotionally. In announcing the fight, Joshua said he had taken time to rebuild and was now ready to step back into competition.
Prenga, an Albanian heavyweight with a strong knockout record, is expected to serve as a serious test for Joshua as he begins what has been described as a multi-fight comeback plan.
Reports also suggest the fight could act as a buildup to a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury later this year, with promoter Eddie Hearn indicating a deal for that blockbuster contest has been agreed.
