A staff member at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport has been praised for honesty after returning a lost purse containing $1,700 and important travel documents to a passenger.

The worker, identified as Frank Omorojie, a casual staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, found the purse at the departure hall of Terminal 2 near a Rwanda Air check-in counter.

The purse contained $1,700 in cash, a British passport, a Nigerian passport and a credit card, all of which are critical items for any traveller.

Instead of keeping the items, Omorojie handed them over to aviation security officials, following standard procedure. The items were later documented and transferred to the customer service unit, which made an announcement that led to the identification of the owner.

The passenger, a woman, was subsequently reunited with her belongings intact shortly after.

Omorojie said he “only did what was right,” while airport authorities commended his action as a strong example of integrity and professionalism in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
