An anti-crime agency in Anambra State has rescued two children and arrested a suspected trafficker in what authorities described as an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nomen, was apprehended in Nkpor, Idemili Local Government Area, by operatives of the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA).
According to officials, the arrest followed a sting operation in which an undercover operative posed as a buyer. During negotiations, the suspect was caught and taken into custody.
Two children, aged between three and eight years, were rescued from him. Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had been kept in a hotel while arrangements were being made to hand them over to another member of the trafficking network.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to purchasing the children for ₦3.5 million and disclosed that he was working with accomplices involved in an inter-state child trafficking ring.
Authorities say the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, as efforts continue to uncover other members of the syndicate.
