Abductors of eight worshippers in Kwara State have reduced their ransom demand to ₦150 million, after initially demanding a far higher sum, amid ongoing efforts by families and community leaders to secure the victims’ release.

The victims were kidnapped during an attack on a church service in the state, an incident that has left the affected community in deep fear and distress. According to local representatives, the abductors first demanded ₦1 billion before later slashing the figure to ₦150 million, a development that has further intensified anxiety among residents still grappling with the trauma of the abduction.

Community sources say the reduced ransom is still far beyond what the victims’ families can raise, with many describing the situation as overwhelming and devastating. The abduction has also reportedly led to displacement in parts of the affected area, as residents flee amid fears of further attacks.

Security concerns remain high as efforts continue to secure the safe return of the worshippers, while authorities and community stakeholders are being urged to intervene urgently.

The incident adds to growing concerns over recurring kidnappings in parts of the country, where armed groups increasingly target civilians for ransom, leaving communities vulnerable and fearful.
