Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed over 60 terrorists, including key ISWAP commanders, during a major operation in Borno State, as part of intensified counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East.

According to the Army, the operation was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who successfully repelled a coordinated night attack on a military formation in Mallam Fatori, located in Abadam Local Government Area.

The attack reportedly occurred around 12:50 a.m., with insurgents believed to be members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) advancing on foot from nearby areas. The attackers were also said to have deployed armed drones in an attempt to breach the military’s defensive position.

However, troops detected the movement early and responded with overwhelming firepower, supported by coordinated air operations. In the ensuing battle, more than 60 террорист fighters were neutralised, including several high-profile commanders within the insurgent ranks.

Military authorities described the operation as a demonstration of their readiness and tactical superiority, noting that the successful defence prevented what could have been a significant breach of security in the area.

The development comes amid a recent surge in insurgent activities in Borno, including deadly bombings in Maiduguri and increased attacks on military formations. Security experts say the use of drones by insurgents signals an evolving threat, even as the military continues to record operational gains.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against insurgent groups, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to eliminate remaining террорист elements and restore lasting peace in the region.
